Being Millionaires in Love

Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.
Proverbs 23:4-5

Material riches never bring meaning to our existence, to our life. They only distract us from the true meaning, they take us away from our path. Greed and usury are serious faults for several reasons.

In the first place, we place goods and possessions above everything that exists, in an excessively valued place, and we wish only to increase our wealth, as if this would increase our value as persons. In other words, wealth, money, luxury and material possessions are deified. We unwittingly create false idols.

Secondly, material possessions are as ephemeral as life itself. One day we have them, and the next day they are gone. We are very attentive to wealth and money and in reality it flies out of our hands as quickly and inevitably as it comes to them. God tells us: it is an eagle that flies to heaven and leaves us with nothing. There we will realize that the true value is in our inner self, in our faith, our kindness, our generosity.

Every virtue we develop stays with us forever and constitutes our true treasure. Let us look at our inner life, at our love for the Father and for our brothers and sisters. It will always be with us.
