Eternal Opportunities for Healing
Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.
Isaiah 55:6-7

Last week I had the difficult task of restraining my youngest son because he had obtained a low grade in one of his exams. Of course I told him not to worry, that ultimately what mattered was that he had tried and would get a second chance, that all was not lost. We have all failed at times.
We are not perfect, we make mistakes, but we have the virtue of making amends and getting closer to the creation that God wants us to be. Let us remember, then, all those times when we have overlooked the life God has called us to live. We could become distressed, let ourselves be carried away by sadness and also surrender to our own disappointment of having failed the Lord.
We could continue to sink into the abyss of feeling that no matter what we do, there will be no way to make up for that mistake. On the other hand, we could be filled with hope, persevere in our faith and be convinced that in God's mercy we can be called again.
It is our decision to choose one of the two paths and it is our action that will decide if we will honor the second chance that we find in the Lord or if we will distance ourselves from Him, thus distancing ourselves from the model that His word dictates to us.
